How to Beat Bosses — Reap and Rush
Boss fight guide for Reap and Rush Early Access: phase tells, element counters, Paper Craft windows, and biome gate strategies.
Boss rooms in Reap and Rush are gatekeepers — clear one to unlock the next underworld biome and higher tier upgrade offers. Unlike trash waves, bosses punish panic dodging and reward phase discipline: learn one tell, exploit one window, repeat. This guide covers universal boss rules, element counters via the Five Elements, Paper Craft timing, and mindset differences from similar games like Magicraft.
Universal boss rules
Arena borders activate on entry — no leaving until victory or death. Bosses drop large Soul clusters and guaranteed upgrade choices. Invulnerability phases glow gold; do not waste Paper Crafts or long cooldowns there. Between phases, trash adds may spawn — kill for emergency healing orbs if your build lacks sustain. Review Combat Basics for dodge recovery before blaming DPS checks.
Reading telegraphs
Every boss attack uses a two-step wind-up: ground marker, then execution. Red circles expand — dodge at max radius, not on spawn. Line telegraphs track your position until freeze frame — dodge perpendicular, not backward. Elite Yaoguai in the same biome often reuse subsets of boss patterns; study elites as homework. Controls Guide slow-walk helps practice tell spacing without damage.
Element counters
Bosses carry a primary element affinity shown on the health bar border. Metal bosses resist Metal damage but stagger faster from Earth area slams. Fire bosses melt under Water slow combos — see resonance tables in Five Elements Builds. Pivoting elements mid-run is hard; prepare in the Build Planner before committing to a biome push.
Paper Crafts in boss fights
Save at least one armor-break craft for phase two. Freeze crafts are overtuned in Early Access — use during channel phases, not open DPS windows. Craft inventory refreshes rarely inside boss rooms; enter with four slots if possible. Details on Paper Crafts Items and Paper Craft Builds.
Envoy and companion synergies
Some Envoys carry boss-specific passives — bonus damage to staggered targets, extended i-frames on phase change. Companions that distract adds let you focus the boss; see Companion Tier List. Relics that proc on phase transition outperform raw stat sticks — Companions & Relics Items.
Biome progression strategy
Biome one boss: learn dodge rhythm, ignore element optimization. Biome two: require one Resonance or strong Paper Craft plan. Biome three (Early Access cap): test full build in Builds Hub before entry — upgrade drought makes under-leveled spells feel worse than bad play. After victory, spend meta Souls at the ledger per Getting Started.
After a loss
Death returns you to the hub with partial Soul bank. Watch a phase you failed in a replay-free way: note which tell you misread. Adjust one variable — craft timing, not entire build — then retry. Boss achievements are listed in Achievements Guide. For official balance changes, watch Updates.
Recovery between attempts
Boss losses should teach one mistake, not ten. Replay the phase you died in mentally: early players die during add waves between phases because they burn crafts on trash. Reserve resources when the boss health bar segments — visible notches mark phase thresholds. Between attempts, spend meta Souls on stagger-friendly stones if you failed twice to the same attack; see Fate Stone Tier List. Watch launch-week discussion on Steam Community Hub for biome-specific tell videos, but verify against this guide before copying off-meta element pivots.
Early Access boss roster notes
Launch bosses emphasize element armor and duty-themed arenas — feeding shrine debris in biome one, misplaced god statues in biome two, fox spirit braziers in biome three. Environmental hazards are telegraphed in gold, not red; do not dodge them onto escort NPCs if duties overlap. When Zhong Kui story patches add bosses, this section will expand on Updates with new phase tables without spoiling unverified datamine leaks.
